“Còn tôi đã trở nên kẻ giúp việc Tin Lành ấy cứ sự ban cho của ân điển Đức Chúa Trời, là ân điển đã ban cho tôi bởi công hiệu của quyền phép Ngài” (Ê-phê-sô 3:7).
Trong từ điển tiếng Việt, “ân điển” là một từ cũ ít được sử dụng ngày nay, chỉ về ơn huệ của vua ban cho trong một dịp đặc biệt. Như vậy, ân điển trong cách hiểu từ xưa của người Việt là điều gì đó rất hiếm hoi. Khi đối chiếu điều này với sự ban cho của ân điển Đức Chúa Trời, chúng ta thấy rất khác. Đức Chúa Trời là Vua trên muôn vua, Chúa trên muôn chúa, và ân điển Ngài không chỉ giới hạn trong một dịp lễ nhất định nào đó. Kinh Thánh cho biết ân điển Chúa ban một cách rộng rãi cho bất cứ ai đáp ứng với tiếng gọi của ân điển.
Trước hết, ân điển của Chúa chính là sự chọn lựa của Ngài để chúng ta trở nên những người thuộc về Ngài ngay cả trước khi chúng ta được sinh ra:
“Trước khi sáng thế, Ngài đã chọn chúng ta trong Đấng Christ, đặng làm nên thánh không chỗ trách được trước mặt Đức Chúa Trời, bởi sự thương yêu của Ngài đã định trước cho chúng ta được trở nên con nuôi của Ngài bởi Đức Chúa Giê-xu Christ, theo ý tốt của Ngài, để khen ngợi sự vinh hiển của ân điển Ngài đã ban cho chúng ta cách nhưng không trong Con yêu dấu của Ngài!” (Ê-phê-sô 1:4-6).
Chính tôi đã kinh nghiệm việc mình được Chúa chọn từ những ngày còn thơ ấu, lúc ấy chỉ hơn 10 tuổi. Trong đám đông đồng trang lứa tò mò đứng xung quanh ngôi nhà mới vừa có người nước ngoài dọn đến. Các bạn trẻ áp sát bờ tường rào, còn tôi đứng cách xa xa… Đứa bé gái người nước ngoài, dầu trạc tuổi nhưng dáng vẻ bề ngoài lại trông lớn hơn tôi rất nhiều, chỉ tay về phía tôi và chọn tôi làm bạn của nó. Chúng tôi rất thân nhau, dầu nhiều lần do hoàn cảnh sống thay đổi, chúng tôi mất liên lạc… nhưng hiện nay chúng tôi vẫn là những người bạn tốt, thăm hỏi và cầu nguyện cho nhau hằng ngày qua Internet.
Lúc đầu tôi không nghĩ có gì tốt đẹp trong gia đình này, vì họ khác với mình nhiều… nào là ngôn ngữ, cách sinh hoạt hằng ngày. Cứ sau mỗi ngày gặp nhau, cô bạn lại nói: “Mai em tới nữa nhé”. Giữ lời hứa, sau khi đi học và hoàn tất bài tập ở nhà, tôi lại đến nhà cô bạn này, vì nhà ở cạnh nhà tôi, chỉ cách một con hẻm nhỏ. Dần dần, tôi quen nếp sống của họ. Tôi quen trước khi ăn, họ cầu nguyện, tôi quen họ có những buổi tối quây quần trong phòng sách, đàn, hát và đọc Kinh Thánh rồi cầu nguyện. Dù là người nước ngoài nhưng họ cầu nguyện bằng tiếng Việt. Ông bà cầu nguyện cho nhiều vấn đề, cho nhiều người, cho cả người giúp việc, và cũng không thiếu tên tôi trong lời cầu nguyện của họ nữa.
Tôi bắt đầu bị thu hút bởi những thì giờ tĩnh nguyện của gia đình họ, tôi tìm thấy tình thương, lòng vị tha và sự quan tâm. Gia đình tôi thỉnh thoảng cũng có những thì giờ quây quần như thế, nhưng thường là báo cáo tình hình học tập, ngoan ngoãn hay phạm lỗi? Nếu vi phạm sẽ bị “xử phạt” hay bị tước mất sự khen thưởng. Tôi tin Chúa qua các bạn ấy, họ là những “Anh-rê”, “Phi-líp” của tôi, đã dẫn dắt tôi đến với Chúa Giê-xu.
Ân điển Chúa quá diệu kỳ trên đời sống tôi! Lúc các bạn nước ngoài phải đi học ở nước khác, và tôi bước vào cấp III, thì tại thời điểm đó, Chúa cũng dùng một người bạn cùng niềm tin, nâng đỡ tôi trong đức tin. Chúng tôi học cùng một trường, một lớp và cùng đi nhà thờ hằng tuần, đặc biệt sống gần nhà nhau. Người bạn học của tôi đã hi sinh rất nhiều để luôn đi cùng tôi và giúp tôi trong đời sống tâm linh. Có lần bạn được nhận vào học một trường trung cấp sư phạm, nhưng bạn ấy sẵn sàng huỷ bỏ thư nhập học để cùng tôi thi vào một trường khác. Khi chúng tôi tốt nghiệp, mỗi người nhận nhiệm vụ, nơi công tác khác nhau, chúng tôi phải cách xa nhau hơn 140 km.
Nhận công tác tại một trường sư phạm, dễ lắm công việc chiếm nhiều thời gian và cũng dễ bị cám dỗ với những sinh hoạt Đoàn, Đội mà xa dần Chúa! Chúa lại dùng một nữ Truyền đạo sống cùng đường phố, cách nhà tôi chừng 10 căn nhà thường xuyên giúp tôi học Lời Chúa mỗi tuần hai buổi tối. Chúa biết tôi tin Chúa trong gia đình ngoại đạo nên Ngài sắm sẵn cho tôi những người yêu thương và giúp đỡ tôi chân tình để tôi ngày càng trưởng thành, vững vàng trong niềm tin kính Chúa.
Ân điển Chúa cũng rất đỗi diệu kỳ qua chính hôn nhân mà Ngài xây dựng cho đời sống tôi. Tôi gặp người phối ngẫu yêu mến Chúa, hầu việc Chúa như điều mình hằng cầu nguyện. Vượt qua biết bao khó khăn, ngăn trở vì sự khác biệt trong gia đình, nhưng Chúa đã sắp xếp hôn nhân của tôi cách lạ lùng!

Này, sự yêu thương ở tại đây: ấy chẳng phải chúng ta đã yêu Đức Chúa Trời, nhưng Ngài đã yêu chúng ta, và sai Con Ngài làm của lễ chuộc tội chúng ta”. Chị giãi bày: “Giá không cứng lòng, thì chị đã tin nhận Chúa trước em rồi”. Tôi an ủi: “Trễ còn hơn không còn cơ hội! Em ước ao gia đình mình ai cũng sẽ được cứu và nhận biết ân điển cứu rỗi của Chúa.”
Cuộc đời trên đất rất ngắn ngủi! Chúa cho tôi sống mỗi ngày để nghe và nhìn thấy những việc lớn Chúa làm. Đó cũng là những ân điển lạ lùng mà Chúa muốn tất cả chúng ta đếm và dâng lời chúc tụng, cũng như biết ơn Chúa và thành thật sống phục vụ Chúa để rao báo Tin Lành cứu rỗi của Ngài.
