Đây là điều đầu tiên Gia-cơ viết ngay sau lời chào mở đầu. Tại sao? Bởi vì tầm quan trọng của nó. Nhiều Cơ Đốc nhân nghĩ rằng một khi họ quyết định tin nhận Chúa Giê-xu thì mọi thứ sẽ ổn thỏa và cuộc sống sẽ giống như con đường trải đầy hoa hồng. Và khi những thử thách và khó khăn ập đến hoặc vẫn cứ diễn ra, họ bắt đầu đặt câu hỏi, “tại sao?” Vậy thì làm thế nào Cơ Đốc nhân có thể sống với những hoàn cảnh khủng khiếp và coi đó là niềm vui?

Phi-e-rơ cũng bàn về chủ đề vui mừng trong thử thách như sau:

“Hãy vui mừng về điều ấy, dù bây giờ anh em còn chịu đau buồn trong ít lâu bởi muôn vàn thử thách; để đức tin của anh em sau khi được thử nghiệm sẽ quý hơn vàng — dù vàng đã được thử lửa, vẫn có thể hư hoại — đem lại sự ca ngợi, vinh quang và tôn trọng khi Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ hiện đến. Dù chưa thấy Ngài, anh em vẫn yêu mến Ngài, dù chưa gặp Ngài anh em vẫn tin Ngài, và hân hoan trong niềm vui rạng ngời, khôn tả; vì anh em nhận được thành quả của đức tin, là sự cứu rỗi linh hồn mình.” (I Phi-e-rơ 1:6-9)

Trong cả hai phần Kinh Thánh này, chúng ta thấy có những hướng dẫn về những gì chúng ta cần làm. “Hãy xem sự thử thách … như là điều vui mừng trọn vẹn”; “Hãy vui mừng về điều ấy…” Tại sao? Bởi vì thử thách làm cho chúng ta mạnh mẽ hơn. Phân đoạn Kinh Thánh trong Gia-cơ nói rõ rằng thử thách giúp đức tin của chúng ta sinh ra sự kiên nhẫn. Và phân đoạn Kinh Thánh trong Phi-e-rơ nói rằng đức tin quý báu của chúng ta sẽ được chứng minh là chân thật và kết quả của đức tin ấy là Đức Chúa Trời được ngợi khen. Nhưng bằng cách nào? Làm thế nào chúng ta có thể tìm thấy niềm vui giữa những hoàn cảnh bộn bề, khó khăn và đau đớn?

Làm sao có thể vui mừng giữa hoạn nạn?

Trước tiên, cần hiểu rằng niềm vui mà thế gian ban tặng không giống với niềm vui mà Thánh Linh ban cho. 

Niềm vui hay hạnh phúc thế gian đến và đi cách thường xuyên như sóng vỗ vào bờ. Đó không phải là thứ bạn có thể bám vào khi người thân yêu qua đời hoặc khi công việc kinh doanh của bạn bị sụp đổ. 

Ngược lại, niềm vui hoặc hạnh phúc của Thánh Linh có thể ở lại với bạn cách lâu dài. Đối với người tin Chúa, trái của Thánh Linh, bao gồm cả sự vui mừng, giống như một giếng nước không đáy — luôn có một nguồn cung cấp dồi dào. Ngay cả trong những ngày đen tối nhất, khi nỗi buồn, đau đớn và mất mát có thể đe dọa bạn, thì niềm vui của Đức Chúa Trời vẫn ở đó.

Thứ hai, cần hiểu rằng niềm vui của Đức Chúa Trời không thể bị mất đi. 

Ồ, bạn có thể nghĩ rằng nó đã biến mất — bàn tay của sự bất hạnh đã giật lấy nó khỏi bạn — nhưng không phải vậy. Là những người tin Chúa, chúng ta được hứa về sự hiện diện liên tục của Đức Thánh Linh. Chúa hứa sẽ ban cho chúng ta niềm vui của Ngài. Điều này cũng chắc chắn như sự cứu rỗi của chúng ta được đảm bảo nhờ sự hy sinh một lần đủ cả của Chúa Giê-xu cho tất cả mọi người. 

Lời của Chúa Giê-xu trong Giăng 15:11, “Ta nói với các con những điều nầy để niềm vui của Ta ở trong các con, và niềm vui của các con được trọn vẹn.” 

Những câu Kinh Thánh mô tả người tin Chúa có sự vui mừng của Ngài: “Còn các môn đồ thì được tràn đầy niềm vui và Đức Thánh Linh.” (Công Vụ 13:52); “Viên cai ngục mời hai ông lên nhà mình và dọn tiệc thết đãi. Ông và cả gia đình rất vui mừng vì đã tin Đức Chúa Trời.” (Công Vụ 16:34). 

Thứ ba, thay vì suy sụp, than vãn, phàn nàn, hãy chủ động nắm lấy niềm vui của Đức Chúa Trời.

Cũng giống như sự cứu rỗi, niềm vui là một món quà miễn phí và hoàn hảo từ Đức Chúa Trời, và chúng ta phải vươn tới đón nhận món quà đó. Hãy nắm lấy nó. Hãy chủ động lựa chọn niềm vui. Hãy bỏ qua cay đắng, giận dữ và buồn phiền. Hãy đưa ra quyết định sống vui mừng mỗi ngày dù có chuyện gì xảy ra đi nữa.

Kinh Thánh ghi lại cho chúng ta những tấm gương về các môn đồ đầu tiên đã sống vui mừng ngay trong giữa hoạn nạn:

“Họ đã trải qua nhiều hoạn nạn nhưng đầy sự vui mừng. Trong thiếu thốn ngặt nghèo thì lòng rộng rãi của họ lại càng dư dật. Vì tôi làm chứng rằng họ đã tự nguyện quyên góp theo khả năng của mình, lại còn quá khả năng nữa” (II Cô-rinh-tô 8:2-3)

“Anh em đã theo gương của chúng tôi và của Chúa, vì anh em đã tiếp nhận đạo giữa nhiều hoạn nạn với niềm vui của Đức Thánh Linh”(I Tê-sa-lô-ni-ca 1: 6). 

“Vì anh em đã cảm thương với những người bị tù, và vui lòng chấp nhận để của cải mình bị cướp đoạt, bởi anh em biết mình có của cải quý hơn và còn lại mãi” (Hê-bơ-rơ 10:34). 

Các Cơ Đốc nhân đầu tiên vui mừng giữa sự bắt bớ

Và tấm gương lớn nhất dành cho tất cả chúng ta là:

“Hãy nhìn xem Đức Chúa Jêsus, Đấng khởi nguyên và hoàn tất của đức tin, là Đấng vì niềm vui đặt trước mặt mình, vui chịu thập tự giá, khinh điều sỉ nhục, và hiện đang ngồi bên phải ngai Đức Chúa Trời.” (Hê-bơ-rơ 12: 2).

Xuyên suốt Kinh Thánh, chúng ta đọc thấy việc Hội Thánh bị bách hại, tín hữu phải đối mặt với thử thách và khó khăn. Nhưng thử thách thực sự chính là làm sao để xem mỗi hoạn nạn xảy đến là một điều vui mừng.  

Tìm thấy niềm vui trong hoạn nạn không phải là lý thuyết suông nhưng là bài học mà tôi đang học đi học lại mỗi ngày. Con gái tôi mắc chứng rối loạn thần kinh hiếm gặp, nó đã phải phẫu thuật não và chúng tôi đã phải đối mặt với những thử thách dường như không thể vượt qua, hoá đơn viện phí chất chồng, nguy cơ vỡ nợ và bị xiết tài sản. Nhưng bạn biết tôi đã khám phá ra điều gì không? Niềm vui của Chúa thực sự ở đó.
